King Louis XIV

This is a caricature using photos I took at Versailles, France. King Louis XIV is from the equestrian statue at the front gate. The cherub is in back of the palace, at the edge of one of the long reflecting pools next to the palace. Look closely at the cherub. It is a reference to Louis XVI’s wife, Marie Antionette, of "Let Them Eat Cake!" fame.

The drawing is pen and ink. Black india and gold leaf inks. The gold was horrid to work with. Kept blobbing and gumming up the pen. Any requests for gold leaf paint will cost at least $10 an hour extra. The paper is Aquabee Bristol Pad, Plate Finish paper, fourteen by seventeen inches. This drawing took about 70 hours to complete.
